In a study by NOAA, of the 12 coastal counties analyzed in 2016, it was found that eliminating marine debris and litter from its beaches and parks could increase recreational value for the county by an average of $5.17 million. Contrarily, doubling the amount of marine debris and litter could decrease recreational value by an average of $11.08 million per county.
